Academy Pet Hospital is proud to announce that all of our veterinarians are USDA accredited and can provide both domestic and International Health Certificates!
Traveling or relocating with your pet can be challenging and requires planning. Fortunately, our experienced team is here to help! Once you have confirmed your destination, please consult the US Department of Agriculture’s Travel Website (Domestic and International Travel with a Pet) to learn about the specific travel requirements that will apply. To learn more about these steps check out our “Moving with Your Pet” resource.
Domestic Health Certificates, which cover travel within the United States, require your pet to have a current Rabies vaccination and be in good health, based upon physical exam. These certificates are valid for 30 days and allow you to travel via car, train, boat, or plane.
International Health Certificates allow your pet to travel to a specific destination country, assuming that your pet has met all of that country’s requirements for travel. These requirements vary drastically based on your destination and health concerns specific to that region. Before booking an International Health Certificate appointment, you will need to research the requirements for your location via the USDA’s website.
Once you’ve done so, you will want to contact our office to begin arranging your pet’s travel documents as early as possible. International Health Certificates are only valid for 10 days and must be sent via overnight mail to New York for USDA Approval before they are valid. As such, timing is critical for the scheduling of these visits.
