Thanksgiving just around the corner! Food is a big part of many holiday celebrations, but the true meaning of the holiday is of course gratitude. We’re thankful for all of our animal companions. Read on as a local Fayetteville, NC vet lists some reasons to be grateful for birds.
They’re Smart
The term ‘birdbrain’ is a bit of a misnomer. Our feathered buddies are actually quite intelligent. Polly can learn as many as 1000 words!
They’re Pretty
Birds may very well be the most colorful of our animal companions. Our winged pals come in a variety of vibrant hues. Polly’s bright feathers can add a bit of cheer to any day or room!
They’re Friendly
We all know that Fido and Fluffy can be very cuddly and affectionate, but did you know that Polly is also quite loving? Many birds love to hang out with their humans! It really is charming when a bird lands on your shoulder, or wants to sit with you at the table.
Simple Care
To be fair, Polly can be a messy roommate, and she does need careful supervision when she’s out and about. That said, your daily tasks will often consist of simply giving your colorful little pet fresh food and water and spot-cleaning her cage. These things only take a few minutes. You can also leave your feathered friend in her cage when you’re away, knowing she’ll be safe and sound.
They Sing
Music has some wonderful effects on our minds and emotions. Polly is quite charming when she vocalizes, whether she’s just chirping quietly or belting out her version of Sweet Caroline at the top of her lungs.
They Dance!
Some of our avian buddies really love to boogie down. This is both super cute and highly entertaining. Polly’s dancing is bound to put a smile on your face!
They’re Clean
Birds are naturally quite clean. Polly will preen herself daily to keep her pretty feathers smooth and shiny. And, unlike our canine buddies, she also enjoys taking baths.
They Talk!
This is one area where Polly stands—or flies—head and shoulders above our other animal companions. While not every bird talks, a lot of our feathered pals can speak. What’s not to love?
